Manchester, le 4 juin 1976 : Anthony Wilson, présentateur sur Granada TV, assiste à un concert des Sex Pistols. Totalement inspiré par ce renouveau musical, il crée avec ses amis un label indépendant, Factory Records, et signe bientôt avec Joy Division (futur New Order) puis James and the Happy Mondays.
